Balance Training

What is balancing training?

Balance training can successfully treat the majority of balance disorders. The therapy consists of special exercises that are provided by a licensed clinician. Whether you’re skiing down a slippery trail at Bristol Mountain or riding your bike down the Erie Canal path, coordination and balance is a mainstay when enjoying these activities.

Even when we are not considering it, our bodies are doing a balance and coordination act. From the mundane to the highest level of performance, our body’s ability to coordinate and balance is simply amazing. If you experience loss of balance while walking, dressing, or performing routine daily activities, you could be facing a serious health risk.

Poor balance can lead to difficulty walking, falls, bone fractures, and other serious injuries that severely impact you or your loved one’s quality of life and independence. The fact of the matter is that we have the ability to improve your coordination and balance. Trained professionals at any of our locations can teach you all you need to know about what it takes to get back on that high wire.

Balance training offers a preventative measure to help reduce the risk of falls and is also used in the treatment of ambulatory dysfunctions and for other balance disorders as well. It is our goal to minimize your risk of falling. But because all falls are not preventable, we will also instruct you in proper body mechanics to minimize injury should you have a fall.

After completing a full history and examination, your therapist will develop an individualized program of exercises with emphasis on flexibility, balance, strengthening, and conditioning.

If you or someone you know has problems with falling, don’t wait for a serious injury to learn your lesson. Call us at 267-639-2555 or 484-509-1900 for more information on our Balance and Falls Prevention program or to request an appointment with one of our licensed physical therapists.
